The Ramones to be honored at Grammys

The pioneering New York City punk band the Ramones will receive their first Grammy in the form of a Lifetime Achievement Award.  The award comes late for lead singer Joey Ramone, guitarist Johnny Ramone and bassist Dee Dee Ramone, all of whom are dead.  In an announcement on the Grammys website, Recording Academy President Neil Portnow said, "It is a great honor to recognize and celebrate such a distinguished and dynamic group of honorees who have been the creators of such timeless art.  These influential performers and brilliant innovators have been of great inspiration to our culture and industry.  Their legendary work has left a lasting impression and will continue to influence generations to come."  An acknowledgement for the Ramones and other honorees will be made at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony on Feb. 13 2011.
